Northwest Blend

synblue-745-turf-corner-1

Northwest Blend turf is one of our most commonly installed products across the Puget Sound region. It's highly realistic look makes it a great fit for front yards, larger backyards and full lawn replacements. The reasons come down to two things: it looks genuinely real in Pacific Northwest light, and it is built from better materials than you'll find elsewhere.

Northwest Blend is American-made, independently tested, and engineered with a multi-tone fiber system in Field Green, Olive, and Tan that holds depth in the flat overcast light this region sees most of the year. Single color products go obviously artificial in those conditions and NW Blend excels here.

    What Makes it Different

    What Makes it Different

Plant-based backing, independently verified. The EnviroLoc+ backing is partially derived from soybean oil, replacing a significant portion of petroleum-based polypropylene. The USDA BioPreferred program confirms it through third-party testing. Every roll carries a certification number on the back you can verify. This is also why Northwest Blend is PFAS-free. PFAS compounds have been found in some imported turf products. For families with children and pets who will be on this surface every day, that is not a small thing.

Antimicrobial in the fiber, not on it. Sanitized technology is integrated into the yarn during manufacturing. It is not a surface coating that washes off over time. It inhibits bacteria, mold, and odor-causing microbes for the life of the product. If you are replacing a lawn with artificial grass for dogs in Tacoma, Gig Harbor, or Puyallup, this is the detail that holds up ten years from now.

Three blade shapes. The S, W, and Diamond fiber shapes create the light variation that makes real grass look natural. Single-blade products develop a visible repeating pattern at certain angles. The three-shape system does not, which matters in Pacific Northwest conditions where flat light makes lesser products obvious.

Drainage rated above 400 inches per hour. For muddy yards, waterlogged soil, and lawns that have failed every winter, the turf surface will never be the problem. Long-term drainage depends on base preparation, which our crew handles on every job.

Lifetime warranty, 15 to 20 years real-world performance. Foot traffic is the main variable. A yard with dogs will show more wear over time than a front yard with light daily use.

Made in the USA. Verifiable tolerances, tested safety data, no private-labeling. When something needs warranty service, the manufacturer is accountable in a way that overseas production rarely is.

Is this good for a front yard?

Yes -- it is our most-installed front yard product. The multi-tone coloring reads as real grass from the street in Pacific Northwest overcast light, where single-color turfs go flat and obvious. It holds up in HOA neighborhoods where appearance standards are enforced, and performs well on shaded or north-facing street-facing lawns where real grass has given up.

    How long will it last?

The manufacturer backs it with a limited lifetime warranty. Real-world performance in Pacific Northwest conditions is 15 to 20 years. Foot traffic is the main variable -- a busy backyard with kids and dogs will show more wear over time than a front yard lawn with lighter daily use.

    Is it good for dogs?

Yes. The antimicrobial technology is integrated into the yarn fiber itself -- not a surface coating -- so it does not wash off with cleaning or rain. It inhibits bacteria, mold, and odor-causing microbes. For households with multiple large dogs or heavy daily use in a dedicated pet area, we recommend adding Envirofill antimicrobial infill as an extra layer of odor control.

What does "face weight" mean and why does it matter?

Face weight measures the fiber only -- the actual grass blades -- in ounces per square yard. It does not include the backing. A higher face weight means more fiber per square foot, which translates to a denser, more durable surface with better underfoot feel. Northwest Blend's 80 oz face weight puts it in the upper range for landscape turf.

What is the soy-based backing and does it matter?

The EnviroLoc+ backing replaces a significant portion of petroleum-based polypropylene with biobased material derived from soybean oil. It is a structural component of the backing -- verified independently through the USDA BioPreferred program, with a certification number printed on every roll. In practical terms it is denser and more dimensionally stable than conventional backing, which matters in Pacific Northwest winters. For homeowners researching plant-based or PFAS-free artificial grass in Washington, this is the product.

How does it drain in heavy rain?

Above 400 inches per hour. The turf itself is never the drainage bottleneck. Long-term drainage performance depends on base preparation -- the aggregate depth and composition beneath the turf -- which our in-house crew handles correctly on every job.

Is it PFAS-free and safe for kids?

Yes. PFAS-free, lead-free, and tested to EN-71 (the toy safety standard) and ASTM F1292. The antimicrobial technology that handles pet odor also inhibits mold and fungi on the surface.

Why does it matter that it is made in the USA?

Most synthetic turf sold through installers in the Pacific Northwest is manufactured overseas -- often private-labeled with no traceable origin. American-manufactured turf carries independently verifiable material standards and test data. The specs on the data sheet actually match what is in the roll. With imported products, that is not always the case and there is often no practical way to verify it.
